I tore out the square and then I tried sewing in a new piece, but given that I can't really hand sew very well, I also topstitched around the block when I was done as insurance. I hope it holds.
here's the wide look on the quilt.

the color scheme was inspired by the backing fabric (from the First Sight line by Michael Miller), which I love:

thanks to the common threads quilt pals, as I managed to recycle several scraps, including reds from both Rebekah and Betty. can you find them?

I had lofty plans at one point to embroider a bunch of blocks and make chicken scratch blocks on the gingham. I dialed these plans back but still put in a few stitched blocks. I have made three red and white quilts now, and I'm thinking that maybe I don't really like red and white together. I see other people's red and white combos and love them, but my versions always seem slightly off. I like the final product, but it's not my favorite quilt ever.

I don't think this is off...I think it's beautiful :)
You did a good job swapping that block out. I love the quilt. The overall is a great look. What can be better than red and white??? I love those together.
This is very sweet, Jenny. I love that First Sight fabric and love how you incorporated it!
Today the comment section is back to normal. Love the quilt, you did a good job of fixing the vintage square that disappeared. The back side is cute too.
I love this! The red and white is so striking. That fabric on the back is awesome.
